Our prairie home in Cottonwood Falls was an amazing and quintessentially American place to spend our Thanksgiving. We were heading out to Indiana on Saturday, and we wanted to save a couple of days to explore the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, so we decided to have our feast on Wednesday evening instead of Thursday. Rachel put together an absolutely amazing and classic spread of Thanksgiving favorites: turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pecan pie. Everything was incredible!

A Brief Interlude About Houses
One of the cool things about this trip - particularly given that it will end in a new home for our family - is that we get to try on a lot of different houses and communities. We've stayed in quaint old fashioned houses and tricked out, modern ones. We've stayed everywhere from the deep desert to charming city neighborhoods. And, all the while, we've been mentally gathering information about what kind of home, and what kind of community we're going to want when we get to Oregon. Which brings me to the house in Cottonwood Falls.
It's hard to imagine liking a place more than I love this one. Don't get me wrong ... I have no interest in moving to Kansas. It's just that the owners of this house seem to have put all the right pieces in all the right places to build an amazing home and then put that home in the most perfect spot for that home.
Back to Work and Back on the Road (Mile 3,665, Trail Mile 112.24)
We had a great weekend with Mark, Tevis, and Miles, but the visit didn't end there. On Tuesday, it was back to work, and we each retreated to our spaces to get some business done. For me, there was a big week of conference calls, and having Mark and Tevis around, going through the same thing, made our little retreat feel almost like a small office. Having the extra good energy of friends around certainly made the work go down a little easier. And, of course, this time was priceless for the boys.
Midway through the week it occurred to all of us that the idea of departing on Friday just wouldn't do. We were having such an amazing time that we decided to extend our stay in Santa Fe until Sunday. That meant two extra days to visit, explore, and have fun.
Saturday, we made a return trip to Bandelier, again feeling that our visitors would enjoy the park as much as we did. Sure enough, Miles and Nate had an amazing time climbing about the cliff dwellings (with masks on and with parents close behind with lots of hand sanitizer!).
