The agenda was pretty light while we were here. There are no epic National Parks, no world famous landmarks (other than the potatoes, and yes, we did pass by the big Ore-Ida plant), and no mega-reputation to live up to. So, we mostly saw this as a chance for us to rest our legs and let me get caught up on work after the chock-full visits to Redwoods and Lassen. Nathan even made me a sign!
On Friday night, we took part in a fall tradition that was unavailable in Los Angeles ... a corn maze! We had a great time getting lost in the corn and finding our way back out again.
Unfortunately, this outing was also our first time coming into contact with a population that seemed relatively unconcerned about covid-19 transmission. Unlike anywhere we'd been in the last six months, about half of the people we saw were not wearing masks, and many of them seemed very lax in their social distancing. No wonder this place is a covid hotspot. We were a little freaked out, but we kept our distance and had a good time anyway.
Perhaps the coolest thing about Boise was the neat little neighborhood we stayed in while we were there. It's called the historic North End, and it was a charming enclave of tree-lined streets and adorable houses. We even had a terrific little neighborhood park that we walked to each evening before dinner to play frisbee.
Over the weekend, we even had an opportunity to experience some of the local cuisine ...
We're nearing the end of our ten days here, and I can feel the travel bug starting to wiggle. On Friday we'll be off to what we expect to be a highlight of the trip: Yellowstone National Park, but we'll always have a special place in our hearts for beautiful Boise.
