Snow-mageddon! (Mile 4,857, Trail Mile 124.94)

Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I know these are over-used hyperbole: snow-mageddon! snow-pocalypse! But, hear me out ...

We knew we were in trouble Monday night when we got a weather warning from Rachel's Mom - blizzard conditions and winter storm warnings nearly all the way from Indiana to New York. Nevertheless, we had an eight hour drive ahead of us, and we figured, how bad could it be? Maybe if we slow to a crawl, it could be a 12-hour drive? Even that would be better than having to rearrange our plans for another day in Indiana. Inertia can be like that. So, we got up before the sun and hit the freeway.

The first four hours were uneventful. The sky was gray, but otherwise uninteresting. But, nothing that good can last, and by the time we hit the Ohio border, the snow was falling.

By the time we hit Cleveland's western suburbs, it was falling HARD.

By the time we made it through the city, it was a blizzard.

And, shortly after that, pretty much ever exit ramp had at least one or two cars or trucks that had slid off the road. Thankfully, maybe even miraculously, the Kia stayed as sure-footed in the snow as we could have hoped, and we spent the next four hours praising the Telluride as the best travel decision we'd ever made!

By the time we got to Buffalo, the drive was a slog, not a blizzard-y nightmare, and we were exhausted by the time we pulled up to our rental house on Silver Lake in Perry.

As we dragged our weary bodies into the house, we were shocked to see a Christmas tree and cupboards full of groceries and goodies! Rachel's Mom, sister Becky, and niece Emma had contacted the owners and asked if they could come in before our arrival to drop a few things off! Wow! What a difference ... instead of arriving at an anonymous empty house, we'd arrived at our own little winter wonderland, fully stocked with Christmas cheer, food to last for days, homemade cookies, and some great local beer. I couldn't imagine anything nicer.

We put our welcome sign on the fridge (a gift from Mark, Tevis, and Miles) ...

... and we truly were home sweet home!

Having finally arrived in Oregon, our last major source of stress was finding a home. After all, we don't know the area, and, since I wo...
